Debbie has been working with dogs since she was 12 years old. She is now a bit older and is finally able to live her passion as a dog trainer. She has been an educator for 28 years working in Champaign-Urbana and in the Northwest Suburbs for the past 15 years. Debbie has two dogs, Eli and Cody. Eli is a Maltese, who is an agility champion and was a therapy dog for 7 years at Northwest Community Hospital. Cody is a Mi-Ki and he participated in nosework classes. Both dogs earned their Canine Good Citizen Titles. Debbie's dogs bring so much joy to her life, and she hopes she can help you experience that same joy. Debbie teaches you how to work with your puppy, obedience, assisting with problem behaviors, tricks, beginning agility, Canine Good Citizen Certification, and Therapy Dog Certification. His specialization is Egyptian and Ancient Near Eastern religion, in addition to the study of the ancient hieroglyphic language of Egypt and Mesopotamian studies. He was associated with the Discovery Channel for 4 years, was with the Field Museum for 15 years and Northwestern University for 15 years. Dr. Mudloff is a graduate of Northwestern University, the University of Chicago and Salisbury University. He has taught the archaeology, history, art and science of the ancient Near East at Northwestern University, and the Adler Planetarium in addition to lecturing both in the United States and abroad. He currently teaches courses on several subjects relating to Ancient Egypt and Biblical archaeology at venues in suburban Chicago where he makes his home. His many articles cover a range of topics including the history and religion of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and he is an author of the best selling Hieroglyphs for Travelers. He has a 5th degree black belt (Godan) in Shotokan Karate and a 1st degree balck belt in Budo Tai Jutsu. In addition to Shotokan Karate, Gary also teaches self defense and kickboxing. He has studied martial arts since 1985 and Shotokan Karate since 1990 and has been with Community Education since 1995. Gary’s story began when he made an acquaintance who he later found to be a martial arts instructor and he encouraged Gary to try a class. Shotokan Karate is not just about self-defense and fighting competitively, but more about a person's physical, mental and spiritual development. The exercises promote movement and awareness of the whole body. The individual can progress at their own rate to reach the prescribed levels of advancement. Coming to classes consistently and training without any special equipment allows most ages and lifestyles to participate. Teaching fitness classes is not her full time job, but Sue loves helping others achieve their fitness goals so she decided to add teaching fitness to her life. Her certifications include Pilates Mat, Pi-Yo, Piloxing and Group Strength. Sue started teaching Pilates classes in 2005 and later started teaching Group Strength, Yogalaties, Piloxing and Barre classes. Her classes are high energy, just like her! In later years, she received further training and certification through Lotus Yoga and the Temple of Kriya Yoga and is also registered as an E-RYT 500 through Yoga Alliance. Sandy studied history and dance at the University of Wisconsin and then went on to get a Master’s degree in teaching. She has been teaching yoga with Community Education since 2004 and has taught yoga in a variety of other settings including corporations, classes for cancer wellness at the Alexian Brothers Cancer Institute and Wellness Place, and Chair Yoga at Luther Village and with the Sisters of the Living Word. Sandy strives to make her classes accessible to all by offering many alternative movements and encouraging everyone to move within their range. She structures her classes to include sufficient warm-up movements and core exercises so that basic postures become more accessible. When Kathy took her first yoga class, she immediately fell in love with it. He has also been the coach for badminton for Buffalo Grove High School since 1999. Prior to that, Chris was the head coach at Wheeling High School. Chris received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and Masters degree from National Louis University. In addition to badminton, he has coached football, basketball, baseball, track and cross country at the varsity level. When he started at BGHS, the only position open was coaching badminton. Although his knowledge and experience was in other sports, Chris’s wife had played badminton in college and many of her friends were ranked players in the midwest. He believed he could learn a great deal from them and pass that on to his players. Chris had a passion and love of sports, specifically badminton, which has guided him through many years and many players in badminton. She worked for 20 years as a museum curator and director, but changed direction and took her hobby and turned her personal passion into a full-time endeavor. Growing herbs began in 1992 for Marcy after taking a class at an herb shop. She then started the Backyard Patch to market her herbs in 1995. Her programs have been listed as a "Best of the Best" in the Northern Illinois Library Association publication. Her practice helps parents whose school age children struggle with emotional and mental health issues, have restricted or limited diets, and those parents who have special needs children. Using a variety of tools and techniques, Jill strives to help kids reach their full potential and truly thrive in life. Jill is also a public speaker, educator, and has been with District 214 Community Education as an instructor since 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, has a Health Coaching certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and passed the certification exam for Certified International Health Coach. As the parent of two boys, both of whom have struggled with a variety of challenges, including ADHD, OCD, learning disabilities, anxiety and depression, as well as one who has a serious medical condition, Jill is uniquely qualified to work with, support, and empathize with these families. In prior careers, Jill worked as an Electrical Engineer with Motorola, Inc. and as a technical recruiter with Motorola, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company. She has been a Community Education Instructor since 2017 and has worked in the food industry for 15 years. Jen is also a former Specialty Bakeshop owner. She helps make everyday cooking simple, flavorful, and with no artificial ingredients and loves to use fresh herbs and spices to naturally enhance the flavor of food. Aside from cooking savory foods, Jen is also passionate about baking and decorating cakes. When she’s not cooking or baking, she takes yoga classes to relax and create videos and design websites. Jen was born and raised in the Philippines and was 19 years old when she came to the US. Jen went to college for Hotel and Restaurant Management. In addition, she studied at the Institute for Integrated Nutrition and acquired a certification for Health and Wellness Coaching. Her studies also led her to the Wellness Cooking Academy where she also became a Certified Wellness Cooking Instructor. Jen acquired certifications from Forks Over Knives for Plant-based Cooking and Colette Peters class for Fondant Cake Decorating and has also completed Chef Gordon Ramsay, two Master Classes, Alice Waters Master Class (the art of home-cooking) and Dominique Ansel's Masterclass (he's a James Beard Award-winning Pastry Chef). She likes to consider herself a self taught artist learning through the organic shapes in nature and the energy of the female body and was lucky enough to experience top art schools in Chicago while working several jobs. Sholo rebelled against rules of technique and styles, to develop her own. She grew up with many artistic influences, including her mother, grandfather, aunt and uncle. As an amateur artist , her mother favored watercolor painting. Sue worked as a touch-up artist for an oil painting import company and volunteered as the visiting "art lady" for several elementary schools in the area. Working as a floral design instructor and lead designer at craft stores and nurseries has allowed Sue to continue to use her creativity as an adult. Additionally, Sue has added other types of painting and jewelry making to her repertoire. After leaving the corporate world, Peggy has been teaching professionally since 2018. While the only certifications for needlepoint are for the judging side of the industry, she continues to take classes from national teachers and learns something new in every class. Peggy’s experience ranges from teaching students in Lake County grade schools to high school aged students to teaching Community Education classes. Her shop, Little Stitch Shop, is a full-service needlepoint store that specializes in hand painted canvases, specialty threads, books and accessories. They offer finishing services, as well as classes for beginners, project based and private lessons.Peggy’s advice to everyone is to jump right in! Mary was previously an instructor for the CAA (Creative Artists Agency) for many years. Additionally, Elena is an AFAA Certified Group Fitness instructor, a certified Zumba instructor and she holds A Teaching Artist Certificate at Dancing with Class. With experience in Latin Dance (Salsa, Bachata, Cha cha, Merengue), Zumba, Line Dance, PreBallet, Creating movements, Mommy and Me, Hip-hop, Brazilian Samba, Zouk, and Kizomba, Elena has been teaching since 2001. Dennis specializes in all realms of photography such as product, weddings, model composites, family, business meetings and head shots. There are not many areas of photography that he is not familiar with. While Dennis has been teaching photography since 1979, he joined Community Education in 2013. His love for photography is why sharing his experience and knowledge is successful. Her love of crochet and knitting came when she was introduced to it as a little girl. At that time, she would not use any patterns, but learn to make her own projects by looking at other people’s creations. Zee grew up in China, but currently resides in the suburbs and has been teaching with D214 Community Education since 2017.
